Ok, I am one for seasonal weather but these warm days and realllly cold nights are throwing me off. I had to put a down comforter on the bed. Did someone move San Diego north and we didn't notice?
Distractions abound of late. Didn't even realize I hadn't posted for awhile--even though I have had much to share.
Here's today's quirky quark event: I was on the phone answering a customer service survey about my recent meal at Rubio's and filling in my code number exactly as the radio began playing a Rubio's commercial. Radio spots for Rubio's have not been typical or abundant before and then to have one air just as I am conducting Rubio's activities is an amazing bit of serendipity. I have no idea what the bigger cosmic message is on this one, but it was duly noted.
Last night, Don and I went to Borders Books to meet and listen to Richard Lederer. He is known as the Verbavore because of his voracious vocabulary and his penchant for prose. Not only is he prolific author but he has hosted the radio show (speaking of radio) "A Way With Words" on local PBS. Mr. Lederer is an amazing living dictionary, thesaurus and almanc in one human being. A verry engaging, gregarious and witty gent. The promotion was for his new book as well as from Broadway San Diego giving a plug to the show that opens next week, Tony award winning, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." So Borders had a live spelling bee. Oh, I so wanted to join in but I was waaaay too nervous. It was fun. And had I known that even if I mispelled a word I would have gotten a soundtrack of the show, I might have risked it. Oh well.
As much as I admire Mr Lederer, he did make a literary or grammatical slam at Starbucks that gave me pause...but only for a moment. He mentioned that he does not patronize stores that do not use the appropriate apostrophes--such as Borders and Starbucks. However, he learned that Borders is actually the last name of the family that launched the business, so he is willing to be there. I am also a huge Apple Computer fan(atic) and I managed to forgive them when they launched the "Think Different" campaign and ignored the adverb requirement of Think Differently. Guess I am more lenient than the Verbavore.
With only moments left to November, 2006, I take the time to breathe in a profound sense of gratitude and ready myself to welcome December in joy.
