This afternoon, while at work, I walk by the front office and John is on the phone and I hear him say, "So, I won't tell her..." not even knowing if he was referring to me, I yelled out, "Yeah, don't tell her!" John hollers out to come to the office for a moment. I do. He hands me the phone with a "surprise." Hmmmmm
A good surprise? Well, John was smirking, so I thought I would give it a shot.
A female voice on the other end asks if I know who she is. Nooooo... then I hear another female voice in the background kinda on speakerphone...do I recognize her? No....
She says we go back to elementary school. That is a long way. I ask for clues. No way. So I figured out a way to extract clues. I asked them about boyfriends! (Knowing that would give me the info I needed to determine just who was calling). The speakerphone voice says "Joel Delman." A big grin on my face. Debbie Gomez. One down. OK, the other caller was determined to not give anything away and so wanted me to guess. Debbie calls out a hint about Mystery Woman and ta da! Denise Shan is identified.
I have not seen and probably not spoken to either of these (now) women since the early 70's. And they found me through my best friend in Jr.High Kelly Radford who told them I was of all things, a minister. They weren't even sure if they should risk calling me but Kelly told them I was cool and they could be themselves with me. I don't blame them for wondering if the good little Catholic girl now turned Reverend was going to be uptight. Within a few moments, we were talking like old times.
Then I told them how another one of our classmates tracked me down through the Internet and called me at my hotel during a church conference and he blew my mind. Of course, they too, remembered Marshall Stern! Ooh la la!
Meanwhile, John is sitting in the office listening to me squeal and squirm in remembrance of days gone by. Almost 36 years.
GULP. Aren't I only about that old..somewhere...on some planet..by some bizarre chronology???
OH well, the three of us are going to hook up this weekend because Debbie flew in from Vegas and get this--Denise lives in Temecula!
It's true we are only six degrees from someone at any given time.
Wait, I am hearing strains of "It's A Small World After All" playing somewhere.

Well, it's better than the Simpson's version of THAT SONG!
I much prefer the song "Let the Good Times Roll"...... Always having to get my 2 cents in.
