The Gooseyear Blimp

"Hush, little baby, don't you cry..."
Even in the midst of a huge emotional moment where I find myself in throes of sobbing, I take note and appreciate the synchronicity of the universe.

Just as I succumbed to that sob, the oldies radio station was playing the 1966 one-hit wonder, rock version of "Summertime" by Billy Stewart and the lyric that echoed was "Hush, little babeeeeee, don't you cry...".
Weird and wonderful.

So, what do I have to cry about?
Nothing. Everything.
After all, in addition to being voted "Miss Dictionary" in Junior High School, I was also voted as the person with the biggest tear ducts (but that wouldn't fit in the yearbook under my name).

This morning, on my my way into work, I stopped at MY neighborhood Starbucks. And the barista happened to mention that they were staying open late next week for the PV High School graduation and... that they were closing the store on June 19th. I clutched and grappled for my bearings.

OK, let me stop here and very quickly insert that I do understand that in the scheme of things and the bigger picture of the world, one lowly little local Starbucks closing its doors--especially in this economy--is not a big thing. I get that intellectually. And yet, this was the local Starbucks that made such a difference for me when I was coming up to Chico to consider living and working here. When I came back in for my second visit, they remembered my name! (Shades of the television show, Cheers and "Nooooorrrrrrm!") Don and I walk up to this Starbucks and it has become part of our family and neighborhood feeling.

What's going on? Linus moved. Starbucks is closing. I thought I was just getting settled and secure.

My higher Self wisdom knows it is change and growth and part of the bigger plan and all is well.
My higher self feels taller than me right now.

Maybe I am just having a weeny-whiny phase or hormones are out of whack or ..or..

Or, I think I will just focus on having seen the Gooseyear Blimp today.

When my synchronized sobby self arrived at church early today, I got out of the car and heard a different cry that was unfamiliar. It didn't sound like our usual flying friends so I turned to see if I could ascertain the source. Almost immediately, I saw what was the unicorn version of a giant white goose unlike anything I had ever seen except in the fairy tale, "Mother Goose."

It was a giant white goose with an orange bill and big web feet holding court at the lake. I couldn't believe my eyes. I have been seeing the usual geese and their new crops of goslings for months now but had never seen the likes of this specimen. And there is no way I could imagine this bird being airborne.

I quickly put all my stuff inside the church and got my cell phone ready to shoot still and video pictures. She ( I am presuming it is a female based on the media images I have been fed since childhood and by the royal posturing) was standing there holding court while all the other geese and goslings rambled around her. I came up cautiously and talked to her to advise her of my plans. I began to toss the food and everyone else came towards me for a morning snack--not this one. I waited till the crowd died down and I took a few quick photos and then began to toss her food. At first, the wind kept blowing the food away from her and she didn't see it. I called to her and told her I was going to toss some food solely for her. She turned made a sound (not quite the cry of earlier) and I tossed the corn kernels which she calmly gobbled until intruders came along.

Since I am still learning my cell phone and because the USB cable I ordered for uploading photos turned out to not be the right model type, I have not been able to upload the footage. But I didn't want to postpone sharing my goose story.

Someone said that the white goose is more traditional and that the others we have all the time are Canadian geese. Do they have a working visa to be here, eh?

Well, no matter, I think this white goose came by to remind me that fairy tales (tails) can come true...

(For those who wish to hear the Billy Stewart version, here is a YouTube link:

and if a white goose could be a black 60s R & B singer, this would be the one...hat and all)
