Divine '09 is finally here.
Yes, yes YES.
It has been an easy transition to this new year for me. In fact, I have had to correct myself from using 2009 in advance of when the calendar actually changed. Maybe it is because there is so much hope and potential and power that awaits us all.
I can happily report that I met my new year's goal of spending the entire day in my jammies.
(TMI for some...) After getting up early to feed Belle and do my morning prayer work, I went back to sleep again.
Oh, and speaking of Belle... she was quite a hoot today. When I sat down in the prayer chair to do my reading (I usually do some spiritual reading before I meditate and pray) she was rubbing up and down all over the book in a very exaggerated and prolonged manner. It became laughable because she could not get close enough or rub deeply enough into the book. Guess she was really hungry for the spiritual truth inside that book. And later, when she joined me for my late morning nap, she used her own cunning and figured out how to remove the eye shade from my eyes by tugging at it with her paw and pulling it away with her mouth. Then she curled up on top of my head for a mind-meld of further wisdom.
My biggest pleasure was in starting to read two brand new books-- "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin; and " Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. Reading on a wintry day with nothing else to do...ahhhhh, tis heaven.
It was a real treat to not approach this new year with hounding thoughts of "what is it I need to do to release before midnight" in order to make the new year perfect. I was not frantically trying to journal my ideals (formerly known as resolutions) that I wanted to create to impress into Creative Law to ensure would happen in 2009. Happily, because I am now practiced in the art of visioning and intention-setting on an active, almost daily basis, I do not have to wait for external time lines or holidays as my motivation or inspiration. Yet, I still dance with my childhood Southern tradition for New Years--what you do this day you do throughout the year; hence the reading of new books, a new toothbrush, etc.-- so I did indeed have my annual meal of blackeyed peas as a tribute to my mother and grandmother.
Tonight, was our second viewing of "Across the Universe" on DVD (thanks, Sunshine for that swell holiday gift). Funny, that this, too. fit it with my recent 60's nostalgia. This extraordinary piece of artistic cinema is really amazing and calls for me to reiterate my desire to be Julie Taymor when I grow up. Ms. Taymor has the most unique visual eye (and ear) and manages to present musical sequences that can reflect how I see and hear things in my head. I really don't think I grew up loving musicals and that is what influenced how I thought the world would best operate; I think that I grew up with an inner world of song and dance always operating in my mind and when I discovered musicals, I finally felt understood and at home.
Oh, and here is my first green eco-tip for the new year:
After washing dishes in the dishwasher, be sure to open the door to let the dishes air dry; AND be sure to lean in over the door and get a free hot steam before you wash your face for the evening.
My appreciation goes out to my wonderful Heavy Breathers for sharing the past year with me. I am thrilled to see a few more folks turning up as a regulars and even posting comments. And for any newcomers, if you do post a comment, I often go back to address or reply to your comments in the commentary section rather than responding in a new blog--so be sure to go back and check. Welcome to Constance for joining the photo gallery, too.
I affirm and know for each of us, a grandness of being this new year that includes purpose, prosperity, passion, people and pjoy. Since I couldn't think of a joy word that began with the letter 'p', I made one up. In this case, the 'p' is silent.
Cheers!
