Oinkberry

Buddha's Belly was bustling on Beverly Boulevard tonight. Of course, most restaurants and boutiques on Beverly bustle.
It was a perfect evening tonight, so I took my walk about 7:00 p.m. and traversed the Beverly-Fairfax area. The neighborhood is so wonderful if you stay contained within the main streets that contain it--Beverly Blvd. and Melrose Ave. (going East-West); and Fairfax Ave. and La Brea Avenue (going North and South). Without cars, this is an ideal neighborhood. Everything is within walking distance and the residential streets are tree-lined and gorgeous. It reminds me of early East Coast brownstones. Two-story apartments with high ceilings, crown moulding, distinctive architechture...and oh so hip. The residents are either very old or rather young. The closer you get to Fairfax, the younger and more hip. The area heading towards La Brea is filled with Jewish families and several Jewish community centers and schools. The families were out walking tonight. Men with their yarmulkes or large black hats (I am unsure of their spiritual meaning), the women in babushkas and black skirts, dark hose and practical shoes. Sprinkle in a few rabbis walking quickly along to teach and it is a real community. Although, I admit a mild amusement when I see the elder rabbis walking in their full regalia as they talk on the cell phone. It almost seems oxymoronic. Their garb and intention represent such an ancient religious culture that the visual does match that L.A. cell phone prototype.

The boutiques on Beverly are so unique. The restaurants are so eclectic and cool. And tonight I passed one store called Oinkberry. The name caught my eye and I stopped to see what wares they sold. It was not anything I expected by it's name. So, I thought it might be fun to become interactive with this post and take a poll as to what you, the readers think might be the product or service of this store. And if you know L.A. and know the answer, I am trusting you will be on good behavior and not chime in the correct answer.

Mom is doing better. I am handling a lot of business calls and such and still trying to get her approved for Medi-Cal. Tomorrow, I fly up to Sacramento with two of my dear colleagues as we Ordain one of my North Hollywood cubs. Rev. Robin Davidson who has just taken over as senior minister at the Placerville CRS is being installed and ordained tomorrow night. I hope she has a good supply of Kleenex ready for me. Then we fly back on Saturday, I check in on Mom, drive home to San Diego and guest speak at Light of Life Church on Sunday. No foolin'

Oinkberry--what a funny name.
Everything that comes to mind seems too obvious. It probably has nothing to do with pigs given what you wrote, but just for fun, I'll give it a try. Is it a children's clothing store with pig and berry designs? Piggy banks? Anything to do with the Chinese Year of the Fire Pig? An odd name for a tea shop? It had better not be a plus size clothing store! I live in the LA area but not near there and clearly I have no clue. Though tempted, I have not driven over the hill to find out--yet.

Congratulations to Reverend Robin!

My guess is that it is something porcine in nature. Hard to tell what it might sell, other than tchotchkes that have pigs in them, on them, paintings of them--who knows. Anyway, that is my guess and I am sticking to it. Joe
