At least, that is what one of the T-shirts proclaimed on one of the men walking today in the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk.
And I believe it.
This morning, I got up at 4:15 a.m. and Sunshine and I left for the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 5:15. We had decided to go and surprise Reni & Stacy Williams who began the big walk today. It was great to see so many people coming to support the 5,000 women and men who had agreed to do the three day walk but the heavy traffic almost made us late for the Opening Ceremonies.
Dressed in pink and looking like a life-size gumdrop, Stacy was able to find me when I called to tell her we were there. Reni and Stacy had mother and daughter pink sweatshirts and pink headbands. Jim was there to cheer them on before he went to work.
Sunshine and I stayed in the line and cheered and 'high-fived' as many people as we could as they came down the line.
The creative attire was something to behold. There were the "Boo-Bees" dressed in bee costumes; the Bosom Buds, the Tuff Titties, and my favorite, the team Saving Second Base.
It was really quite inspiring to watch this very diverse group of (mostly) women and men in their various marathon pink attire.
All drawn together for a powerful and wonderful intention--raising awareness and funds for eliminating breast cancer in our lifetime. Many people were there because they had lost a loved one to this disease; many cancer survivors were also walking.
As I sit here typing with my feet up on the table, these walkers were scheduled to walk 24 miles today.
It's not too late to donate financially (Reni & Stacy attend Pacific Church); or online to the Breast 3-Day for the Susan Komen Foundation. And, you can get firsthand experience of the amazing energy and commitment by welcoming the walkers home when they arrive at Petco Ballpark on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
After we left Del Mar, Sunshine and I were a bit peckish and well, you know how demanding Sunshine can be and she insisted we go to Starbucks. I am such a softie, so I obliged. It was even more of an exiciting day because we were on our way to the Starbucks on University and 30th, and as we got off the 805, Sunshine noticed a new Walgreens and I noticed a new Starbucks I had not seen. Henry Honda zoomed over to the right lane and we went inside. It was newly furnished and slightly different in design than usual and we came to learn that today was the opening day!! Oh, joy and rapture. I will try and upload a photo Sunshine took of me in my pink attire while at the new Starbucks.
Oh, while there, I learned a little tip from the barrista I shall share. If you are seeking more caffeine, go for a milder blend. The bolder roast has less caffeine. Bet you didn't know that. Guess that is one of the reasons why I prefer espresso. And make sure you look at the holiday Bearistas. The girl has little purple Ugg boots and real pockets in her parka.
Blessings and appreciations to all Veterans.
In the pink!
