Undaunted

Although not amused that the Padres have lost the last two NLDS games here at home, I have faith. They can travel to St. Louis and get even by winning the next two games on the Cardinals' home turf and then come home here next week so I can go to the game on Monday night. Ta da.

Was glad to see the Mets trouncing out the Dodgers. And nice work Tigers!

Took myself in hand today and expanded on my spiritual practice. Adding in some physical therapy--perhaps most people know it as house cleaning--and I scrubbed my entire refrigerator and the kitchen floor. Both very necessary tasks that I had put off for too long because I had so much else to do. It dawned on my today, that I now have the time and the inclination to scrub myself into domestic endorphinosis. (Bet this happens to Martha Stewart a lot...) The chai concentrate had spilled in the refrigerator oh so long ago and settled under the crisper drawers into a nice congealed brown mess. Not anymore. I feel so accomplished that I indulged in new sponges, too. Ah, the little things....

Little things such as irate fans who are mounting a class-action suit against Barbara Streisand for coming out of retirement. The litiginous fans had bought very expensive tickets to her last "guaranteed" concert. Oy.

Or the fact that Massachusetts legislators have proposed a law banning the popular sandwich filling known as Marshmellow Fluff. No more FlufferNutter sandwiches?? It seems that State Senator, Jarrett Barrios says that the sugar content represents a threat to public health. Say it isn't so.

And yesterday, I went to the library. Remember those? Libraries are what LP's are to Amazon.com
I checked out Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land." I never read it in the 60's. And this is the original, uncut version that his wife pushed to be re-printed. 220,000 words give or take. Wow. And that was before word processing.

Life is good.

Oh, Ellie, when I was growing up I wanted to be a librarian. And since I have more books than I have space in my house...i will go wherever I can to be around "my friends." It is a bit more modern at the libraries nowadays but still so satisfying. Why give Amazon and such all the fun? Especially when I want something that is not current; a classic.

Waking up today to my sparkling clean kitchen, I felt so happy. Crisp autun-esque air. What else could I do to celebrate but walk to Starbucks for 'breakfast" (I brought my own hard-boiled eggs), read today's paper and the NY Times. (Did you know they have staged a revival of "A Chorus Line" on Broadway?). And to top it all off, the barrista walked around and offered all the partrons a sample of their new caramel latte. Not being a caramel fan but not wishing to be rude, I indulged. Yummmmmm

Wait a minim.....
