Well, I never know how often to write on this. I don't want to blab and bore so I try to keep a few days inbetween posts. I had some rough days emotionally this week and watched myself process and heal. There has been no joy in Mudville and I was ready to have that be different.
On Friday night, there was a big powwow at church. So I made a clear intention of a full release for all concerned. I lit a brand new, special candle; I held the mala beads that Brother Lawrence had gifted me and I prayed; and I knew that once that was complete, so was I.
Here it is Saturday, Sept. 30th. I gifted myself with the month of September off from doing anything official and allowed myself some R & R. I made an agreement with the Universe that starting in October, I would be ready to receive the insights and guideposts as to what I am to do, where I am to go; and how I am to serve.
Therefore, today had a twinge of "summer vacation is over" and time to go back to school or work. And indeed, that is true. It starts with my oppotunity tomorrow to be the guest speaker at Light of Life Church in Rancho Bernardo. Back in the saddle again. It will be interesting to see how I like the ride.
And since I am doing my life differently these days, I made a choice to go out tonight. I think that since I have been a working minister, I can count on one hand the amount of times that I went out socially or played on a Saturday night before doing a Sunday service. Our Padres helped uplift the day with their win and clinch my decision for tonight. Petco's Park at the Park was showing a free screening of "The Natural" on the big screen. And I was waffling about whether or not to go. When the Pads won, I decided that was a great incentive to be watching a classic baseball movie on the major win tonight that sends us to the playoffs. So when Billie called to see if I still wanted to go, I said YES! After all, tomorrow I am talking about W.W.E.D?. And I thought to myself what would Ernest do? Ernest Holmes was a very social fellow and loved being with friends and having fun, so I don't doubt for a second he would turn out such a serendipitous opportunity to go to the stadium with another baseball FANatic and watch this film.
Billie and I brought our blankets and jackets and snacks and cheered and cried and applauded. It didn't matter that we had seen the film, knew the ending--we were outside the stadium where BASEBALL is really played and we were there to support our team and our passion.
Now for the clincher-----as you walk into the park, the sponsor Westfield Shopping Mall, hands you a booklet with coupons, ads and a raffle number. I pulled out my glasses to read our numbers for later. I quietly said in my mind, "I am willing to win this" and let it go. And yes, just as Robert Redford hit that homerun in the last of the 9th on a ful count, mine was the winning raffle number!!! I won a gift cetificate to the Westfield Shopping Mall at Horton Plaza (THANK YOU) and two free movie passes to Regent Cinema. WAAAHHHHOOOOO!! Is that totally cool or what?
And that is exactly what Ernest would have done--gone out with a dear friend, had a good time and left on a Grand Slam.
