April the First

No foolin'....
No one commented on my last post, so I have no idea how many folks actually read it. For the record, I am improved if not better. I have a cough, cloggy head and sound like I have a head cold. But I know I will have what it takes for service tomorrow. eager to be there since I have been gone for 2 weeks. geesh. I have never missed two Sunday's in a row.

Easter is around the corner and the big bunny is thumping...or is that my head pounding? oh well.

Sammy the Grime Dog has been pouty but patient with me since I have not been well enough to take him on his early morning mile walk; or the three other walks throughout the day. I managed two short jaunts today but walking Sammy is no slight task; he is on purpose and walking is working to him. It takes a lot of energy. I have brushed him 3x today as he is losing his winter coat. Right now he is sleeping and did that cute doggie thing of wrapping his paws around his nose.

I am going to indulge myself since it is April Fools Day and i want to test some new waters.
I am careful to not get political from the pulpit. Never mix politics with religion, they say. (Hey, now that Religion is not in our name, can I get more political?)

Two things that crossed my attention: The brouhaha over the "South Park" episode that took jabs at Scientology. It seems that Tom Cruise and John Travolta have pulled their weight in Hollywood and kept the episdoe from re-airing. Unbeknownst to me, Issac Hayes (who plays the voice of Chef) is also a Scientologist and has taken ubmrage to the episode. Wonder if he was not a Scientologist when it first aired? First Amendment rights allows a certain level of poking fun and in America religious freedom must have some space for parody, I would think. After all the flap about the cartoons in the danish press, maybe we ought to think about having someone plant cartoons or do a parody of Relgious Science. Free press!

And now, there is information that the Catholic Chairities Welfare Agencies have stopped authorizing adoptions to gay and lesbian parents. It seems they were placing kids in loving couples homes but not making a big deal about the fact that they were same sex parents. Catholic Church heirarchy learned of this and have ordered both San Francisco and Boston to stop adoptions altogether. That way they avoid being called on discrimination practices. ARGH. If you want more info on either of these stories go to TheWeek.com for the April 7th issue.

And OK,, don't even get me started on the third anniversary of the war in Iraq; or the details of memos to the FBI about one of the terrorists that no one would take seriously. Wish I could say all that was just April Fools...

Better go set my clocks now so I remember to show up at church on time. Spring back? Fall forward? No...wait, Spring forward, yeah that's sounding right...

Appreciate the chance to express some of my feelings and opinions.

See ya on campus.
