Not sure if I will be able to be make a construct of the disparate thoughts and feelings I want to share tonight.
Rainy day, yes. I love days like this. So contemplative and energizing. Nothing matches that first sprinkle that turns on the negative ions and you can smell it--literally--in the air. It is such a unique fragrance and happens so infrequently in Southern California. I find it stimulating and comforting all at the same time.
Of course, what the rain seems to do to Southern California traffic never ceases to amaze me either. I have lived in Southern California for over 40 years and people still drive as if they have never seen water fall from the sky. Go figure.
The traffic jams tonight were in part due to all the professional sports games being played here. Although, I cannot attribute the stalled Homeland Security Department of Immigration bus off the 805/8 freeway intersection heading North to the soccer game or the U.S. Open. Hmmm, maybe it was because the U.S. is too open and ....nah.
Even with inclement weather and Mercury firmly ensconced in retrograde, I have been having my fair share of synchrodippities. Seeing 'signs' and hearing songs that absolutely reflect my state of mind and the transitional phase in which I find myself. Including hearing one of my favorite Chicago songs, I've Been Searching For So Long that came on the radio as I was arriving at the hospital to be of ministerial support to a former congregant in I.C.U. Yep, the reverend collar and the ministerial robe is once again wrapping itself around me; and moving me into place and purpose. To quote the song, "Good things in life, take a long time."
The primaries are behind us and the greater work in front of us. Many people are trying to get their bearings now with the next phase of the election process soon to begin. This has been a very emotional campaign on many levels; and no doubt, there is much more emotion to mine.
On "The Colbert Report", one of my favorite conservative pundits, George Will was the guest and along with parrying with Stephen Colbert, he said that simply the reason we have two political parties is our way of organizing our (collective) animosities. I was glad he repeated that phrase in between their banter because it really struck a chord for me. Of course, I believe that the political parties have a greater and more noble purpose than that; and yet, I think there is much truth to what he said. Hence, the deeper relevance and meaning of politics in the first place. I am going to let this one steep awhile longer....
And, I am going to affirm that this historic year might also be one in that the essence of the political party can shift to be more about coming together for the collective intentions of well-being and good. That would be a nice touch and reflect the idea of the word 'party' that gets tagged after the word 'political'.
Told ya the negative ions of the rain do wonders for more than just my wavy hair and Irish complexion.
